Delegation Visit to Izu-shi March 2017, the 30th Anniversary of our Sister City Relationship
Izu-shi is located in the centre of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, about 100 km south-west of Tokyo. For more information about Izu City and the region, click here
The delegation will comprise members of the Society whose goals are:
An example of our goal to build community relationships is that both Nelson and Izu-shi have strong cycling communities. Izu-shi will host three cycling events in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Included are road and mountain biking. Other common interests include local farming and gardening, hiking, retirees’ activities, writing and the arts, and exchange programs for students.
The multi-generational community delegation of members is being assembled now, and will include families, educators, cyclists, civic leaders, students, retirees, artists and business people. This is the first multi-generational delegation to visit Izu-shi in several years.
The visit of the delegation to Izu-shi is part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Nelson – Izu-shi sister city relationship. To become involved in the 30th anniversary events next year please contact nelsonizushi@gmail.com . We are hopeful that a delegation will come from Izu-shi to Nelson in summer 2017, perhaps to coincide with Canada’s 150th anniversary.
Our community delegation will leave from Vancouver for Japan in mid-March and spend 2 or 3 days in Tokyo before travelling to Izu-shi.. We will be hosted for 6 days / 5 nights in our sister city, staying with host families. More information will be posted as our delegation plans proceed.
The delegation will comprise members of the Society whose goals are:
